This week, Patton’s Eco Team is hosting a Battery Drive. Please send in your old used household batteries in a plastic bag. Please make sure that the batteries that are being handed in are not broken or leaking.
Students from the Eco Team will collect the batteries from the classrooms on Fridays for recycling.
Batteries contain corrosive materials and heavy metals that can contaminate the environment. Recycling significantly reduces the dangers batteries pose by diverting them from landfills and incinerators. In landfills, the battery casing corrodes and leaks heavy metals into the ground causing soil and water pollution. In incinerators, the heavy metals in batteries can cause air pollution. Thank you for recycling and helping conserve the environment!
