All set for summer? Summer is a great time for students to relax with a book and experience the pleasure of reading just for fun! And research has shown that reading just five books can protect students from a drop in reading levels known as the “summer slide”. Checkout tips for parents to keep your kids reading this summer.
AISD’s 5 Book Dive
Take the 5 Book Dive – Keep your brain alive! Keep track of the books you read on a 5 Book Dive bookmark. Bring it back to school in the fall and turn it in to your school librarian to be recognized as a Summer Reader. Show your completed 5 Book Dive reading log at BookPeople to get a $5 gift certificate!
Austin Public Library’s Summer Reading Program
The Austin Public Library is your FREE ticket to a summer full of reading and loads of fun activities. Download the summer reading log and record the books you read. Then return this log to any Austin Public Library location between June and August, 2017 and earn two books to keep!

Barnes & Noble’s Summer Reading Program
Read any eight books this summer and record them in your Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Journal. Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 16th and September 5th, 2017. Choose your FREE book from the book list featured on the back of the journal.
Half Price Books’ Feed your Brain Summer Reading Program
Download and use this reading log. Read for at least 15 minutes each day. Each week, add up your minutes & have your parent or guardian initial your log. Once you’ve read 300 minutes, turn in your completed log to your local HPB store to earn HPB Bookworm Bucks. By August 31, cash in your HPB Bookworm Bucks in store for books, music, movies & games.
